Auditing Notifications

The Audit page lists event notifications sent as the result of jobs that have run as well as notifications that were not sent. You can use this page to audit notification activity and to resend notifications if necessary.

About auditing in Alert

Alert uses the Audit page to show you the notifications sent for the jobs that have run as well as the notifications that were not sent because they did not match any of the criteria for the configured jobs.

  • Click an item in the list for detailed information about an event. To resend an event, click the refresh icon in the far right column.

  • When re-sending a notification, Alert verifies that the notifications match a configured job, and highlights the notifications that did not match a job and shows an error.

    • When resending, notifications are sent to all jobs in the Distribution Jobs tab. For each job, the notification is sent if it matches the distribution job filter criteria.

    • If the filter criteria for the job has changed since the audit message was viewed, then resending does not work because the notification no longer matches the filter criteria of the job.

For notifications matching multiple Jobs, Alert displays the jobs that the notifications matched. Each job displays its own status and timestamps for last sent.

All provider notifications display in the Audit table, which includes both sent and unsent notifications.

In Synopsys Alert versions 5.1.0 and later, the Audit table no longer displays notification type icons and instead displays a count of the notification types if there is more than one, and lists them on hover. Alert lists the notification types when clicking the entry in the Audit table. Alert versions 5.1.0 and higher also includes a Notification Types column.

Viewing the Audit table

To access the Audit table, click Audit in the left navigation panel.

The Audit table displays the following information for each event. You can sort the table using any of the column headings.

  • Provider: Black Duck

  • Notification Types: Double-clicking the notification type displays the notification details.

  • Time Retrieved: Time when the data was retrieved from Black Duck

  • Last Sent: Time when the notification was last sent

  • Status: Success, Failure, or Pending

To resend an event, click the refresh icon that corresponds with the specific event row in the far right column.

You can click an entry in the Audit table to see additional details. Clicking an entry in the Audit table provides the following display options.

  • Distribution Jobs: (Default view) This tab displays the list of jobs that distributed the notification.

    • You can resend a distribution job notification.

    • You can click on Failure in the Status column to view the error and stack trace as shown in the following image.

  • Notification Content: This tab displays the notification details configured by the distribution job and sent in the notification.

The following additional options are located in the upper right corner of the Audit page.

  • Only show sent notifications: Click this checkbox to display only the notifications that have been sent.

  • Enable Auto-Refresh: This option is selected by default: it enables the Audit screen to automatically refresh when a new event is sent.

  • Search: Use the Search function to locate specific notifications. Alert searches all fields displayed in the Audit list and filters the list to only those events that match your search criteria.

  • Clear: Click to remove all audit table entries.

The following controls are common to both the Audit page and the additional details window.

  • Item count selector: This control in the lower-left corner determines the number of entries shown in the details view. Options are 10, 25, 30, and 50.

  • Page count: The blue indicator in the lower right corner displays the number of pages contained within the details view. If there are multiple pages, you can click the > and < buttons to navigate forward (>) or backward (<) through the pages.
