Synopsys Alert 6.2

Overview

Synopsys Alert enables you to see the critical Black Duck notifications you want, where and when you want them. It also supports a number of commonly used distribution channels, such as email, Slack, Azure Boards, and Jira. As logging into Black Duck is not required for using Alert, it streamlines the process of getting timely, valuable Black Duck related notifications to key stakeholders.

The Alert application provides the capability to send notifications about Black Duck events from Black Duck through various Alert distribution channels such as email, Jira, Slack, or Azure Boards. Alert users with the administrator or job manager role can create distribution jobs that determine how the notifications are sent from Black Duck to various Alert channels.

Alert is a web application that runs in a browser and has its own user interface. Alert can be orchestrated as part of and runs in parallel with your Black Duck deployment.

After you have successfully configured your providers and channels in Alert, you are ready to use Alert to create distribution jobs to enable notifications.

How Alert works

Alert receives notifications from Black Duck and enables the distribution of those notifications to configured recipients. Black Duck is a critical component for Synopsys Alert to get its notifications, because Black Duck originates the notification events that Alert distributes through third-party systems such as email, Slack, Jira, or email.

When Alert is configured, it runs continuously in the background receiving notifications from Black Duck and delivering those notifications to users relative to the configured projects. Administrators can also verify the successful sending of notifications through the Alert Audit screen.

Before you start

Before you access and configure Alert notifications from Black Duck, you must have installed Synopsys Alert by using either of the following methods:

  • For instructions about installing Synopsys Alert in a Docker Swarm environment, refer to the Docker Swarm Readme file in the deployment zip file.

  • To install Alert with Kubernetes, locate the deployment files in Alert's Kubernetes subdirectory, and open the Readme file, which contains the Kubernetes configuration procedures and installation instructions.  For a stand-alone installation, view the stand-alone installation section in the Readme file and follow those instructions.

Alert only supports TLS 1.2 and 1.3
